My First Blog

Everybody's writing blogs, so I feel I should at least get one started. I'm probably going to stop a week from now, but I can at least try to write one. I'm writing my first post now, at 2:24 a.m. on a Wednesday morning. I should be getting to sleep now (I have an 8:30 lab in the morning) but my roommate is still awake, and I don't feel like going to sleep.
Why do I not feel like going to sleep? Because I started listening to a great band, Traffic, about an hour ago and I can't stop. Traffic is one of the most underappreciated bands in rock and roll history. With Steve Winwood, one of the greatest rock singers ever, at the helm, Traffic is a great psychedelic band. Right now the song "Rainmaker" is playing from my favorite Traffic album, The Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys, and I can't help but wonder why this band is not played on the air more often. Why this band is not put up there with the other great psychedelic rock acts such as Jefferson Airplane (who are also underappreciated) and Jimi Hendrix (okay, maybe that's a stretch) is beyond me, but I didn't grow up in the late '60's-early '70's. Maybe they were very popular back then, but their music didn't fully last through time like the Beatles and Stones did. I don't know. All I know is Traffic is up there with the most underrated bands/artists of all time. Other underrated bands that I should mention: the Band, Jackson Browne, and the Kinks, just to name a few. By the way, my favorite Traffic song, "Every Mother's Son", just started playing. Go find a recording of it. A great song.
Anyway, after that tangent, I should explain this blog to the zero people that will be reading it. The title explains it all: This Is About Anything. I will probably be talking about music and sports, predominately (the O's are about to start up in less than a week), but who knows what else I will write about? So, for those that are reading this (once again, definitely zero people), hopefully you'll enjoy, and learn some new, but pointless, information through reading this bullshit. (But take the Traffic stuff seriously; they fucking rock). Time to take a five hour nap...

  1. more than zero people read this blog. I do, which means 1 person reads it. Since we're on the topic of overrated/underrated bands, I have to say that Jethro Tull is a bit underplayed. There are a couple reasons why I don't listen to the radio much anymore. First of all, classic rock stations rarely play more than two or three songs by a certain artist. Secondly, my iPod has much better music. By the way, the best Traffic song is John Barleycorn

  2. yeah jethro tull is another band that is severely underplayed. they have like three songs that are played on a regular basis.
and john barleycorn is a great song. the way it builds throughout is great, and it has a great melody. but i still am partial to every mothers son

  3. traffic has some great stuff. my favorite song would probably have to be "dear mr. fantasy" off of their debut. as for jethro tull, one of my favorite works by them is actually the live version of "song for jeffrey" off of the rolling stones rock and roll circus album.
